When released The Lethal Fisherman will be available for purchase through the publisher, Black Opal Books, book stores, on line stores and as an E-book. I would, again, like to thank everyone for your continued interest in The Lethal Fisherman; book #1 of a trilogy. A hero is a person who, in a situation involving danger along with the impending and strong possibility of the loss of human life, arises from the ordinary, and without thought for his or her personal safety, rushes to give aid. There is another form of hero, usually unnoticed or in some instances kept in purposeful anonymity; either for his protection or for the protection of those he or she may be in concert with. Sometimes that protection is due to the need for the act to be performed to be kept secret. Such a man is Jon Morton. He is an above average military combatant. He is not without personal flaws or problems. He is a minor hero, doing something he has willingly agreed to for the benefit of nations or governments. He will never receive an award or recognition for his deeds. He is only a hero because he survived. Perhaps he was a little smarter or stronger than his adversary. Perhaps more skilled or a better planner, or perhaps it was a combination of all of those coupled with a generous portion of luck. Regardless of the how or why, Jon Morton will always remain in the shadows.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish the multiple hundreds of interested readers who have visited my website the best for the holiday season. I wish all of you the greatest of gifts; good health, true happiness, strong friendships and love. These gifts are priceless, but ones to truly cherish. May your lives have an overflowing bounty of each.
The best to each and every one of you, jjburke Covert or “Black” operatives are a select few whose missions are secret, and whose activities are not made public. They are almost always run by a special sector of a country’s armed forces, with two primary purposes. Their overall objective is the saving of lives.
One purpose is hostage rescue. This form of operation has a two-fold concern… the lives of the operatives and the lives and safety of the hostages. The other of their two primary purposes is the elimination of a party or parties that represent a proven danger to humanity and/or a government. Either situation requires very specific data and intelligence, as well as intense split-second timing. The operatives are well aware that every time they are deployed they’re putting their lives on the line for the benefit of others. At this moment, still quite a distance from release date, I would like to offer my sincere thanks to the hundreds of people who have taken the time to visit my web site.
For me, as an author awaiting the release of his first novel, it is exhilarating to see such a response from friends, family, and acquaintances; as well as complete strangers. I am enervated by this response and hope that all of you will be there when The Lethal Fisherman is finally available. The decision to write a novel was not the result of fore-thought or planning. Nor was it in response to a bet or dare. It was purely accidental.
I always enjoyed writing and often write to vent or express feelings or reactions; usually a paragraph or two. Perhaps even as much as a couple of pages, but nothing more. The precipitating event for my first novel occurred, one day, as I walked my dog along the oceanfront at 4:30 a.m. I muttered something, aloud about the existing conditions and perhaps a hundred or so yards later decided that what I had muttered would be a great line in a story. (I won’t disclose it, since it’s in the novel) When I returned home I wrote it down and roughly one week later sat down and began to write. I didn’t start out with the intent of writing a book… just to formulate a story around my early morning utterance. However, once started the story grabbed me, drew me in and urged me on. After six years, a number of revisions, corrections, and re-writes I had a full length novel. What’s more is the fact that in the last chapter I saw the easy move into a second and possibly third story; all resulting from the first. I had trapped myself… I was hooked. J.J. Burke |
